The meeting was called to order at 8:30 am by Nanci Ramsell of Altercare of Cuyahoga Falls.  Introductions were made by each member.

 

 

Treasurer’s Report  - Diane Ash from In Working Order reported there is $1933.00 in the account

 

Membership Committee  -   Elizabeth Applegate had no updates for the membership committee.

 

Education Committee:  - Fliers were passed out for the upcoming CEU Education Meeting on April 26, 2011.  This is a breakfast meeting – RSVP’s are required.  Jeannie Flossie, LPN and LHNA will be the speaker – the program is on Human Behaviors; what is Normal?  (1.0 CEU).  Breakfast is being sponsored by Altercare of Cuyahoga Falls, Home Helpers and Advantage Home Health Care.  If you’re interested in being a sponsor – please contact Melanie Ledger at 330-754-7108.  You can RSVP to Melanie at 330-754-7108 or e-mail RSVP@summitssn.org.

Announcements

 

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Salvation Army Food Drive!  Elizabeth Applegate announced the Salvation Army has a great need for Shower (toiletry) supplies.  They have over 1200 people a month who come in for showers.  They can use towels, shampoos, soaps, etc.  Elizabeth will be putting together a flier for information on how we can help.

 

Nancy Ramsell of Alterare of Hartville announced that their social worker Jeanne Gary passed away on Saturday, March 19 in an automobile accident.  You can see her obituary on ohio.com.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time.

 

Congratulations to Elizabeth Applegate from A Place for Mom who reached a milestone and helped her 3000th family!

 

Nancy Kepley from Home Helpers announced that Sierjie M. Lash from the United Black Firefighters of Akron is offering, through a grant received, free smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire escape ladders to those who attend an info-session.  You can schedule an info session (approximately ½ hour) with your case managers, caregivers, etc. The products will be distributed at the session and if homeowners need assistance installing – they will install the units for them.  You can contact Sierjie at 330-836-8290 to schedule your session.

 Wendy Wilson announced that they are looking for a Sales Representative for the Stark County area.  Any one interested please contact Integrated Medical.

 Julie Malone announced that there are still open spots for the “Spotlight Presentations” at the upcoming meetings.  Anyone interested in signing up please contact Julie.  Also, make sure in your presentations you let the members know what “makes you different” from other organizations in the same field.  There are two spotlight sponsors per meeting – 15 minutes each.  The sponsors are to coordinate with each other to provide the refreshments for the meeting.

Meeting Minutes

Meeting came to order at 8:40am. 

Announcements made were:

Diane Ash announced the Montrose Auto Group “Taste of Italian Wines” to be held 10/26/10 from 5-7pm at the Ultimate Jet Charters.  There is no charge for the networking.  All are welcome.  There will be many different chambers of commerce present.

Nanci Ramsell announced the Cuyahoga Falls Chamber Health Expo on Nov. 6, 2010 from 9am-3pm held at the Natatorium is still seeking vendors for booths and volunteers.  Passed out flyers.

Wendy Wilson and Tari Northcutt announcecd the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank is having a food drive and Pebblecreek is accepting donations.  Wendy asked that the SSN group make a monetary donation.

Linda Stemple announced the county is collecting medications from nursing homes in unit dosed packets by way of Karon’s Law.  She had sent out an email to the group.

Lucy Beebe asking to help with the food drive and will partner with Tari Northcutt for ideas.

Bobbie Collins announced that Patrick Seaman will be talking about Veteran’s Benefits at McCrea Manor on Nov., 19, 2010 at 1:30pm

Rebecca Raines announced her company she owns Transitional Health Care Solutions that manages individuals for post discharge follow up to reduce repeat readmissions to the hospital.

Elizabeth Applegate announced the Mix and Mingle was a great success and thanked the committee members and the meal sponsors.

Diane Ash announced membership application sign up available and she would email the registration forms to those needing them. 

New member to be Diane Morgan a volunteer ombudsman with the Area Agency on Aging and Amy Johnston with Hanson Services introduced themselves.

Cookie Bates with Mobility Works announced their services to fabricate vans for handicapped individuals and for ambulettes.

Wendy Wilson introduced the speakers for the CEU and thanked the committee members for their assistance in planning the CEU and for the breakfast provided by “On Call Catering”. 

Wendy Bentley with Gentiva Home Health Services introduced the speaker Treva Heil, RN, Director of Clinical Specialties and Maureen K. Parry, M.Ed., R.D., L.D. with Summa.

The CEU adjourned at 10:10am.

Membership Committee  -  The Mix and Mingle is scheduled for October 12th – Membership committee is working together with the Events Committee.  Directories are in and were distributed at the meeting.  Directories will be available at the monthly meetings.

 Education Committee  Wendy Wilson announced the Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 26th  on Nutrition is going to be a catered breakfast.   This is a CEU meeting which is free to members.  $25 for non members which will include a 2011 membership.  Please RSVP to Wendy Wilson at summerh2o@aol.com for the event.

 Events Committee Carol Shemenski announced the October Mix and Mingle is scheduled for October 12th, 4:30 to 6:30 at Kucko Anthony Kertesz Funeral home.

 Minutes from the July 27th meeting were approved.

 Treasurer’s Report  - Diane Ash from In Working Order reported there is $980.91.   Payment was made for $60 for the Mix and Mingle.

 Membership Committee  -  Directories are in and were distributed at the meeting.  Directories will be available at the September Meeting.

There are two tickets to the Elder Abuse Workshop that we received from our donation.  Nanci Ramsell asked if anyone was interested in going to the workshop.  Linda Stemple was the only member interested in attending the workshop.  She was awarded both tickets.

Announcements

April O’Herron from the Area Agency on Aging announced they are having a CEU program on September 9, 2010 at Hartville Kitchen.  It is entitled “Maxine’s Perspective on Getting Old”.  This is a 3 CEU Hour program.  A flier was distributed to the members.

Carol Shemenski announced there is a breakfast CEU opportunity at Chambrel on September 30th, 2010, 7:30 AM – Breakfast and Registration.

Stacy from Homewatch Caregivers announced their Party at the Pond to raise money for Alzheimers Association.  September 22nd from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.  There is a $10 donation.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 am by Nanci Ramsell of Altercare of Cuyahoga Falls.  Introductions were made by each member.

Minutes from the June 22nd meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s Report  - Diane Ash from In Working Order reported there is $2600.   The directories have been re-Printed and the cost will be $1559.00.

Membership Committee  -  Nancy Kepley indicated the directories are in – however the front cover is being re-printed by ANUP Gupta of AG Print Promos.  New directories will be available at the August meeting.

Education Committee  There should be an upcoming event in October.  The committee is to get together after the meeting to discuss.

Events Committee Carol Shemenski and Elizabeth Applegate asked the Events Committee and Membership Committee to remain after the meeting to work on the Fall Mix and Mingle.

Old Business:

It was voted on and agreed to sned $300.00 the to the Summit County Elder Abuse Coalition.

Nanci Ramsell announced that she is now with Altercare of Cuyahoga Falls.  Her new e-mail address is mktcfcp@altercareonline.net.

Marta Williger reminded everyone on her e-mail newsletter “Update on the Law” that she distributes Every other Month.  If you are not on the mailing list and would like to be, please contact Marta.

John Hardesty from Signature Health Care gave a presentation on the many services provided by Signature Health Care.

Wendy Wilson asked about a sponsorship for the Elder Abuse Awareness Conference.  The sponsorship we have done in the past has been $500.00.  It was decided to table the vote until the next meeting.

Tammy Reed from AG Print Promo announced the VA Administration is having their show this year in Brecksville.  The tables are free if you’d like to display.  Please call Tammy Reed if you need additional information.  At 330-315-9600.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 am by Nanci Ramsell of Summits Trace.  Introductions were made by each member.

 Minutes from the April, 2010 meeting were approved.

 Treasurer’s Report  - Wendy Wilson from Integrated Medical reported $2600 in the account.   The yearly website fee was paid of $120 and a donation was made to Kucko Anthony Kertesz Funeral Home for letting us use their community room.

 Membership Committee  - Elizabeth Applegate from A Place for Mom passed around the draft of the 2010/2011 directory for members to approve.  They will be going to print as soon as it is updated.  She received several quotes for the directory – and approximately 2000 will be printed. 

 Education Committee  No update

 Events Committee – Heather Duve from Home Instead is moving out of state and will no longer be the Events Committee Chair.  New committees to be formed.

 Announcements

 Nanci Ramsell announced upcoming CEU events at Summits Trace, June 17th.  The flier was distributed via e-mail to the members.

 Danbury is offering a CEU on June 22nd from 5:00 – 6:00 pm – Dealing with Difficult People in the Workplace.

Minutes - April 27,2010

Meeting came to order at 8:35am.  The members introduced themselves and announcements made were Integrated Medical having an educational seminar on May 14, 2010 with CEU’s for SW, Nursing, PT/OT and will be a full day.  Another CEU, Providing Overview of Hospice on May 18, 2010 for 4 CEU’s for LNHA, Social Work, Nursing will be at the Skyline Hotel on Rockside Rd. in Independence, OH.  Marta Williger informed group of her Update on the Law emails she sends out and asked for anyone interested in receiving them to provide her with their business card and email address.  Reminded the group, the minutes were sent out via email to the membership.  Minutes approved by Diane Ash and Tracy Jett and Denise Czech seconded.Treasury Report read by Wendy Wilson shows 62 members with $2600.00 in the checking.  Most of these funds will be used to cover the cost of the membership directory.  Any members paying their dues or joining after March 31, 2010 will not be in the printed membership directory, but inserts will be regularly distributed with new members information.  Also, new members can always be viewed on the website at summitssn.org.  Education Committee introduced the CEU presenter Andrew Straub from Evercare.  The meeting adjourned at 9:37am

 The meeting was called to order at 8:30 am by Nanci Ramsell of Summits Trace.  Introductions were made by each member.

 Minutes from the February, 2010 meeting were approved.

 Treasurer’s Report  - Wendy Wilson from Integrated Medical reported $2409.25 in the account.   If you haven’t paid for the 2010 year – membership applications are available at each meeting.

 Membership Committee  - Elizabeth Applegate from A Place for Mom announced the Deadline to be in the Directory this year will be March 31st.  If you do not have your membership fee in by March 31st, 2010 you will not be included in this directory.  Nancy Kepley, from Home Helpers will be working with Elizabeth on the directory.                               

Education Committee  Inese Abols  from Audiphone Co. of Akron, announced the next meeting will be an Education CEU presented by Andrew Straub, RN CNP from Evercare Northeast.  The CEU will be on Managing Behavioral Symptoms in Dementia:  Helpful hints for clinicians, healthcare POAs, family members, and friends.

 Events Committee – Carrie Carney from Senior Select talked about doing more outreach programs and getting information out about Senior Services Network.  She will get together with the Events Chair, Heather Duve from Home Instead.

 New Business:

 Linda Stemple from Summit County Health District wanted to know if Senior Services had donated any money to Kucko Anthony Kertesz Funeral home for letting us use their meeting room.  Wendy Wilson announced, they have done this every year in the past and will do so again in 2010.

 Julie Malone, from Visiting Physicians announced there are openings for Showcase Speakers.  Anyone interested please contact Julie and sign up! 

 Wendy Wilson of Integrated Medical announced that there will be a vote in June for two new Board Members.  The positions open will be President and Treasurer.  If anyone is interested, please let her know

 Carrie Carney from Senior Select announced  the Wadsworth Foundation for Older Adults will be hosting a “Senior Prom” on Saturday April 17, 2010 at Wadsworth Middle School.  Admission is $5.00.  Nancy Kepley from Home Helpers announced she has fliers on the event for anyone who is interested.

 Heather Duve from Home Instead announced that SSAMA will have their next meeting on April 14th, at Essex in Tallmadge.  The topic for the meeting is “Junk in the Trunk.”

 Marta Williger announced she has the Update on the Law newsletter that she sends out bi-monthly by e-mail.  If you are interested in receiving this and are not already doing so, please let Marta know.

 Inese Abols from Audiphone Co. of Akron announced that there is a free dinner at Papa Joes on April 21st from 5:00 pm to 7:00pm.  There will be a speaker there regarding the Cochlear Implants.  You would need to register for the event if interested.

 SSAMA will have their annual social worker luncheon on Wednesday, March 17th at Alpha Phi Alpha.  They are looking for sponsors.  The cost of sponsorship is $50.  Jeff Arnold will be the speaker.

Danbury Sr. Living announced they are offering a CEU on March 2nd, from 5:00-6:00 pm for nurses and social workers on “Dealing with Difficult People”.

Essex of Tallmadge will be sponsoring a CEU event on Wednesday, March 3rd.  Marta Williger will be speaking.

Medina Senior Services Network is sponsoring a CEU at the Masonic Home on March 24th at 8:00 AM for nurses and social workers.

Treasurer’s Report  - Marta Williger of Williger & Peters (filling in for Wendy Wilson) reported $1625.67.00 in the treasury.  This will grow tremendously with the membership renewals beginning in January, 2010.

Membership Committee  Elizabeth Applegate of A Place for Mom indicated the dues for 2010 are due in January, of 2010.  This year there will be a printed directory of the members.

There were five new members for 2010.

 Education Committee –Ines Abols from Audiphone Co. of Akron announced the next education meeting will be in April, 2010.

Announcements

 

Karen Elliott of the Alzheimer’s Association informed us of a program where they can reimburse for caregiver services in Medina County for respite care or Adult Day Care.  Please call the Alzheimer’s Association for more information.

 

Caregivers Day out will be October 22nd.  They are looking for Door Prizes and sponsorships.  Sponsorships are $50. 

 

Their Memory Walk is Saturday, September 26th in Medina and the Blossom Memory Walk is October 3rd.

 

Heather Duve of Home Instead announced their spaghetti dinner September 23rd at Legends, as well as their “Krispy Kreme” fundraiser to benefit the Alzheimers Memory walk.  The deadline for the “donuts” is noon on September 22nd.

 

Home Instead is also sponsoring Operation Medicine Cabinet for disposal of unwanted, expired, unused prescription and non-prescription medications.  It is Saturday October 10th in Green at the old Administration Building (corner of Massillon and Steese Road) from 9:00 am -12:00 pm and also at the Akron General Health and Wellness Center at the Caring Communities Health Expo between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

  

April O’Herron of Area Agency on Aging reported that the Passport and Assisted Living Waiver program is on a waiting list basis.  There are only 78 slots a month they can fill.  It is based on the date of your Medicaid application.  Call the Area Agency on Aging for more information.  Three new facilities were approved on the Assisted Living waiver program:  Summits Trace, Gardens of Western Reserve and Elm Croft.

 

The new HEAP applications are available.  April indicated there is a misprint on the original applications and CORRECTED applications can be acquired at the Area Agencing on Aging.

Summit County Senior Services network received two tickets to the upcoming Summit County Elder Abuse Prevention Coalition annual colloquium on prevention.  A drawing was held of members who were interested in receiving the tickets.  Denise Anderson of the K.D. Group and Linda Stemple of the Summit County Health Department won these two tickets.

 
Old Business

Wendy Wilson of Integrated Medical reminded everyone that potential members may visit one meeting before deciding to join the network.  She encouraged anyone who has not yet joined the Summit County Senior Services Network to pick up a membership application or receive an application on-line at SummitSSN.org.

 

Nancy Kepley of Home Helpers asked for e-mail addresses of any members who were not receiving the Meeting Reminders and Minutes via e-mail.  She stated the Minutes from the meetings are also posted on the website and asked that any announcements be forwarded to her for inclusion on the website.  You can e-mail her at n.kepley@homehelpers.cc

July 28, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 8:35 a.m. by Nanci Ramsell, Chairperson.  Wendy Wilson, Treasurer gave treasury report and reminded attendees of the $25 annual dues.  Nancy Kepley and Julie Malone excused absent.  The highlight speakers were Karen Robertson from Summit Villa and Kathy Benko from Mobility Works.  Summit Villa has Vita-Stim program in their rehabilitation program and having success with this.  Mobility Works gave demonstration of handicap equipped van.  Greenview Inn is having a fundraiser dinner August 11, 2009 and looking for door prizes.  Sydney Campanero will highlight the business at the dinner when door prizes announced.  Summit’s Trace of Greater Canton is having Community Health Fair August 14, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.    Nanci Ramsell  invited the group to attend for networking opportunities.  Rhonda Allen Scott from United Health Care provided education tidbit on the state of Social Security and Medicare.  Meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m.

Jeffrey Gamad of Integrated Home Medical, standing in for the vacationing Wendy Wilson, reported that Integrated Home Medical is partnering with Life Access for home remodeling. Integrated Home Medical is also a Passport provider. Check them out at Integratedmedicalinc.com.

 

Barb Van Fossen of United Disabilities announced she will be retiring on Friday. We will miss her!

April O’Herron - Ohio’s ALF Waiver program has now limited monthly slots. Please contact your congressman or representative to support unlimited registration. Costs are much less than nursing home care.  PASSPORT still has unlimited enrollment.

The meeting was called to order by Secretary, Marta Williger of Williger and Peters. Introductions were made with members stating what “projects” they were involved with this spring. Several members reported projects including:

  • A program by the Health Department to redistribute medicat

    The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. by Chair, Nanci Ramsell, of Summit’s Trace. Introductions were made with members talking about memories.

     

    Minutes – The Minutes of the April 28, 2009 meeting were approved.

    Treasurer’s Report - Jeffrey Gamad of Integrated Home Medical, who was standing in for Treasurer Wendy Wilson, reported $2100 in the treasury.  

    Membership - Nancy Kepley of Home Helpers reported the website has just been created and will provide links to member’s websites.

    There were no reports given by the Special Events or Education committees.     

    Announcements:

     

    Linda Stemple of the Summit County Health Department reported on the Drug Repository Prescription Assistance Pilot for those 55 and older and at 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Medications from nursing homes will be redistributed to the needy especially those in the donut hole. There will be a small charge for the medication. See schd.org.

     

    Tammy Reed of AG Promotions reported on the VA “Welcome Home” celebration. This will be an annual event at the Falls Riverfront. Members of non-profit organizations can set up a booth – contact Patty Hall at the VA for the exact date next year.

  • RAM Ohio- a free clinic scheduled May 2-3 at the Berea Fairgrounds (now cancelled because of Swine Flu fears).

New Business The Membership approved a $92 annual charge to establish our website. Wendy Wilson of Integrated Medical and Nancy Kepley of Home Helpers will be in charge of this project.

The Meeting ended at 9:00 am. Visiting Nurse Program then presented a 1 hour CEU presentation entitled “Married, But Alone”.

 Our next meeting will be May 26, 2009.
